Day 0: The Nerdy Backpacker

This message is sent from my Zaurus handheld before leaving my apartment. Almost everything is packed now. I just need to load my Zaurus up with some MP3 music, some E-books to read during my trip, and with various logistical information.

My pack weighs in at only 32 lbs, thanks to deciding to leave certain items behind at the last minute. Of course the load will be heavier on the actual hikes, due to the added weight of food and extra water. However, it's more than manageable, and I fully expect to shed a few pounds myself by the time this is over. You can rest assured, however, that I won't be foregoing any local delicacies along the way...
